It's just not Thanksgiving without a parade complete with fun balloons!
We present to you the York Elementary School Third Grade Thanksgiving Parade! (Our version of Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade).
Our parade judges were challenged to judge the entries, a difficult task as all of the balloons were fantastic. After much consideration, here are our parade winners:
Abigail DeRuyter-Mrs. Shaffer's class
Alexandra Powell-Warner-Ms. Moulton's class
Carter Hayes-Mrs. Patanella's class
And the Parade Grand Champion is Evelyn Orman in Ms. Moutlon's class!
Enjoy the parade and Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Explore the Possibilities!
Explore the Possibilities is a new addition to the sixth grade curriculum, aiming to help students do just that - explore their own career possibilities.
Throughout the school year students will hear from special guests about their chosen career and what are the steps to achieving their career goals.
Local baker Pam Battaglia, owner of Decadent D-Lights Bakery, visited York Middle/High School recently to talk about how she became a baker. She offered this advice to the students: "First think about what you like to do."
Mrs. Battaglia explained that it is important to choose a career you genuinely enjoy. She loves to bake and it was evident in her smile when she talked with the students about some of the baked goods she enjoys making. Many of the students have tasted Mrs. Battaglia's baked goods at events that she caters in the York area.
Of course, she did not visit the classroom empty-handed. Mrs. Battaglia gave each student a chocolate-drizzled croissant.
Thank you to Pam Battaglia of Decadent D-Lights Bakery for speaking with the sixth graders.

Let's talk turkey!
Junior Jaelyn Fanaro came into school on her recess day to serve donuts and coffee to the staff who faced a 12-hour day on Monday for parent-teacher conferences.
She is the President of the YCS Stand Up Club.
Jaelyn's cheerful smile infused the staff with energy for the day! The donuts and coffee may have helped, as well.
We are thankful for you, Jaelyn!
Drop a comment below and show her some gratitude!
Thank you Jaelyn

On November 20, Mr. Chatley and High School Counselor Mrs. Hussar explored the campus of SUNY Brockport with members of the History of Sport class as well as prospective nursing majors from York High School.
During this trip, students toured academic and dorm buildings, learned about educational offerings, and got a behind the scene look into the fields of Exercise Science/Kinesiology, Physical & Occupational Therapy, Physical Education, and Nursing.
Both groups of students had a tour of the university's state-of-the-art nursing labs and athletic facilities like team locker rooms, training facilities, and weight rooms.
A special shout out to the Brockport Student Athlete Advisory Committee, who showed our History of Sport students around the SERC and athletics side of campus.

Even highly talented artists need a creative break once in a while!
On the Friday before Thanksgiving recess, Ms. Andrzejczak's AP Art students worked on a different kind of project; one that could be completed in one class.
Students created Rice Krispie turkeys - using their creativity to decorate them with common snack foods.
This was a creative and fun outlet for the students, Ms. A. said. When school resumes on December 2, students will return to learning and creating more complex artwork.

Civil Engineer Zach Anderson from Clark Patterson Lee recently talked with York High School students about engineering careers and the construction industry.
Mr. Anderson's visit was part of the Lunch-N-Learn series of career presentations, sponsored by the Livingston County Education Alliance.
The Livingston County Education Alliance is looking for other career presenters to inspire the next generation by visiting schools in our region. You'll be sharing your experience and passion for your career with students. You may contact them at 585-443-2712.

Eighth Graders Arrive at Ellis Island
Imagine it’s 1910; you and your family are in the bowels of a steamship bound for a better life in America. After several days on the rough waters of the Atlantic Ocean, you arrive at Ellis Island.
The next chapter in your better life begins…not quite, you and your family must first pass the rigorous inspections at Ellis Island.
Mr. Ben Chatley’s eighth grade Social Studies students participated in an Ellis Island reenactment to deepen their understanding of European immigration to the United States.
The faculty played various roles in the simulation, including public health director, guards, and luggage inspector. Mr. Chatley played the role of the final decision-maker: Welcome to America or, please step over to the deportation line.

It's Friday afternoon in Kindergarten, on the 50th day of school...and then this happened. A 1950s sock hop!
The winner of this round is Mrs. Flint!
See videos of the jitterbug on our Facebook page.

Congratulations to these York Golden Knights, selected to perform in the New York State School Music Association's Area All-State Festival.
Haley Miller (Clarinet, Symphonic Band); Teagan Minor (Soprano, Mixed Choir); and Sydney Metz (Bass Clarinet, Symphony Orchestra). Lena Balisciano (not pictures) was selected as a Trumpet alternate
The festival concert is at Newark High School on Saturday, November 16.
Being selected to perform in the Area All-State Festival is one of the highest honors a student-musician can achieve in the state. Only a few schools had students selected from the Genesee Valley School Music Association to perform with the ensembles, made up of the top music students from around Zone 2.
Zone 2 is one of the most competitive zones in New York and is comprised of Greater Rochester and the surrounding counties of Monroe, Orleans, Genesee, Wyoming, Livingston, Ontario, Seneca, and Wayne. To be accepted into the group the students successfully auditioned at a Solo Festival in May and their scores secured them a place in the Festivals.
To be accepted into Area All-State as a small school is a remarkable achievement that isn’t often done. Congratulations and great job to all.
