Who Dunnit?
That is the question that students in Mr. Peter Apps Forensics class are trying to answer!
For the culminating project in this 20 week course, students must use the scientific analyzation skills they’ve learned to solve a mock criminal case. A man is dead…natural causes or is this a crime?
This week, the students are analyzing the crime scene, collecting evidence, and conducting in-person interviews with people who may be connected to the crime. Could one of them be a suspect in the crime?

Sea Urchins can be found in and around the world's oceans, across all climates, from the warm beaches of the Caribbean to the icy waters of Antarctica.
Mrs. Gillian Brubaker's Living Environment classes dissected Sea Urchins.
Explanation of the lab:
"The Sea Urchin Dissection Lab offers an in-depth exploration of sea urchin anatomy and physiology. In Part 1, students work collaboratively to dissect sea urchins and record detailed qualitative and quantitative observations.
Part 2 incorporates research and comprehension, where students engage in critical thinking to connect sea urchin adaptations to their marine environment. This lab fosters hands-on learning and reinforces anatomical concepts."
At the January 13 2024 meeting, the York Central School Board of Education appointed Mr. Ken Ellison as the Interim Middle/High School Principal, effective Monday, January 6, 2025. Mr. Ellison will be with us for the remainder of the school year.
Mr. Ellison has spent his first few days meeting the students and staff. He is pictured here with Seniors Mia and Isabel.
"I want to thank everyone for making me feel so welcome as the Interim 6-12 Principal. I grew up on a dairy farm in the southern tier of New York State. My small rural High School and Pavilion CSD are both very similar to York CSD. This made me right at home on day one. I look forward to meeting more staff and students in the coming weeks,” Mr. Ellison commented.
Mr. Ellison comes to York Middle/High School with many years of experience in education and administrative work. He spent his entire career at Pavilion Central School District where he served 11 years as Superintendent until his retirement in 2020. Before being appointed Superintendent, Mr. Ellison held several positions, including School Business Official, Director of Pupil Personnel Services, Assistant HS Principal, Special Education Teacher, and Assistant Wrestling Coach.
Please join us in welcoming Mr. Ellison to the YCS Golden Knight's family.

York Alumni, Collegiate Hall of Fame Member, and current YCS teacher, Mr. Eric Amorese presented the inductees to the audience gathered at the game.
"Thank you to the York Sports Boosters, for helping these former alumni. Greg Keenan, TJ Gullo, Jimmy Kane and Pete Fanaro for assembling and mounting our plaques in the A-wing. Thank you to the best Athletic Director and Coach in Livingston County Ed Orman, for his time on this project.
The Collegiate Hall of Fame was invented in 1996 by PE teacher John Magiera to recognize the accomplishments of our student-athletes, and give our current student athletes a goal to strive for. Only 6% of High school athletes have the skill to play a college sport, and even less can handle the rigor of juggling studies, travel, practice, and workouts
Today, we gather to induct a distinguished group of individuals into our Hall of Fame—athletes who have proven that greatness is not defined by athletic prowess alone, but by the dedication, discipline, and perseverance that extend beyond the playing field. These inductees have excelled academically, while competing at the highest levels, embodying the true spirit of a student-athlete.
These alumni have represented our community from coast to coast. Leicester, Retsof, Linwood, Fowlerville and York were represented in media guides all across the county, and they made us proud."
Reading with heart!
Second-grade students in Mrs. Leah Stamp's class practice their reading skills by learning how to run their eyes across a sentence looking for words they can read by heart or "heart words." This method encourages the students to read in longer phrases instead of one word at a time. They practiced with their reading partner - each student read aloud to their partner.
