Congratulations to York/Pavilion Varsity Football Coach Kurt Schneider, this week's Buffalo Bills High School Coach of the Week.

In week 2, the Golden Knights defeated Attica by a resounding score of 35-6, led by Coach Schneider. Schneider became a coach due to the positive impact the coaches from his youth had on his life.
To continue to pay this impact forward, the York-Pavilion football team works with elementary students by reading to them during instructional settings.

His favorite football moment happened earlier in the season when his team rallied from being down two touchdowns in the second half to a comeback win after a tough injury earlier in the game.

That game is what Coach Schneider believes encapsulated their team slogan of "Knights, Proud, One!"

When Mother Nature gives you an extended period of perfect weather, you take advantage of it.

Mr. Amorese's PE classes have enjoyed a stretch of outdoor classes on the tennis courts. Tennis is a great workout for both our physical bodies and our cognition. It offers physical benefits such as improved cardiovascular health, bone density, muscle strength, and weight management.

Tennis is also a brain booster. Players need to be quick-thinking, which improves alertness and focus. It is a stress reducer, which contributes to better mental health.

Imagine how one small dot can spark a child's creativity, inspire courage, and motivate collaboration.

Today is International Dot Day, a global celebration of the day Peter H. Reynolds’ book The Dot was released on September 15, 2009.

Students in Mrs. Macauley's, Mrs. Rudger's, and Mrs. Shaffer's classes participated in activities based on one small dot and watched their projects become several dots, working, creating, and collaborating together. It was a fun day of using mini-M & Ms, playdough, toothpicks, and a dropper with colored water to transform their teaching and learning.

The Dot is the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark.” What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage.

In Miss Kahnis’s sixth-grade ELA class, students are refining their writing skills by learning to journal. The first five minutes of their Monday class is journal time. Sometimes the students are asked to journal about something related to the current lesson, and other times they are free to journal about a topic or idea of their choice, whether hypothetical or factual.

MIss Kahnis says that journaling helps the students practice writing in full sentences, echoing the question they are being asked, and helping to establish a weekly routine of coming into class and getting their materials ready.

Ask your sixth-grader what they wrote about in their journal this week.

We are pleased to announce that Mr. Kurt Schneider is the new York CSD Athletic Director and Student Services Coordinator. Please join us in extending best wishes to Mr. Schneider in his new role with the Golden Knights.

York High School Social Studies Teacher and Varsity Football Coach Kurt Schneider has been named the District’s Athletic Director and Student Services Coordinator, following his official appointment at the August 11, 2025, Board of Education meeting.

“During this time of transition, YCS is excited to have a veteran educator and coach take over as Athletic Director/Student Services Coordinator. I have great confidence that Kurt will continue the long-standing values of the Golden Knights and the York community that have been established,” YCS Superintendent David Furletti said.

Mr. Schneider is a 1996 graduate of York High School. Beginning in 2023, he’s been a YCS faculty member, teaching seventh-grade Social Studies, High School U.S. History & Government, and AP U.S. History. Before coming home to his alma mater, Mr. Schneider taught at Keshequa Central School for 16 years.

He has lived in the YCS District for over 16 years and coached the Golden Knights for more than 12 years in modified basketball and football, and JV football. Since 2018, he has been the York/Pavilion Golden Knights Head Varsity Football Coach.
"I am really excited about this next chapter in my life as the new Athletic Director and Student Services Coordinator here at York. I can't wait to get to work and do everything I can to serve our York/Pavilion student-athletes and our communities. While I will miss the classroom and teaching, my new role as Student Services Coordinator will allow me to continue to work with our wonderful students here at YCS,” Mr. Schneider commented.
“My plan is really simple. I am going to continue to build on the already strong foundation that was created before me and keep things running as smoothly as possible for our student-athletes moving forward. I am thankful for this opportunity and looking forward to the challenges it will bring."

Mr. Schneider succeeds long-time Athletic Director/Student Services Coordinator Ed Orman, who left YCS in July to become the Director of Athletics, Physical Education, and Health at Honeoye Falls-Lima CSD.

The BEST B & G crew around!

York School is very large and it takes every minute of every workday for our Buildings & Grounds crew to clean every room and prepare it for the September opening day.

We want to say thank you to our B & G Golden Knights!

Both gymnasiums have been cleaned and waxed and look fantastic! Bring on the fall volleyball season!

The parking lots have been sealed and striped, and over the next few weeks, the hallways will be cleaned and polished in anticipation of the return of our students. We cannot wait to welcome our Golden Knights to the 2025-2026 school year.
