Hooray for Groundhog Day! Punxsutawney Phil emerged from his habitat this morning and did not see his shadow, which is good news for those who are ready for spring. Many elementary school classrooms learned about Groundhog Day, which is observed annually on February 2. It originates with an old Pennsylvania Dutch tradition that says if the groundhog emerges from his habitat and sees his shadow, that means there will be six mor weeks of winter weather. If he doesn't see his shadow, that means that there will be an early spring! The students had great fun with Phil the groundhog today. Many students said they were happy with Phil's prediction of an early spring.
