Mrs. Pangrazio's Middle School Science classes explored how our brains react to stress. Using a lesson from York Middle/High School's new MindUp curriculum, students participated in a jigsaw activity to learn how parts of their brain interact when reacting to stress. They also learned a deep breathing technique to calm their bodies and manage stress.

Concussions are a common occurrence among students. A concussion is a type of brain injury that occurs when the brain is shaken or moved suddenly due to a blow to the body or head. York Central School uses a computerized concussion management tool called Impact for base-line and post -injury testing. Every student in grades 7-12 completes a base-line Impact test. If a student is suspected of having a concussion, whether it occurred from sports or at home, the student will complete a post-injury Impact test. York Central School District has established concussion protocols to protect students' health.

Mrs. Stamp's second grade students are good independent workers. On this day, the students moved through a series of rotations including working in small groups with their teacher and a brief period of independent work. The students' independent time included working on their Chromebooks, creating a poster about themselves, and quietly reading.

Mr. Keenan's Tech class learned how powerful the sun is and how solar energy can be used. The students created their individual cookers to place the ingredients in: Graham cracker, milk chocolate and a marshmallow. They took advantage of these warm, bright days and let solar heat cook their s'mores. After a few minutes in the sun the result was a gooey s'more. Delicious!
