Update on June 27, 2025, Water/Storm Damage to the Ground Floor
On June 27, 2025, sudden heavy rain moved into the area, which resulted in water entering parts of the York Central School ground floor due to the drain system backing up. Five rooms received extensive damage to the flooring, HVAC systems, and contents of the rooms. Three other rooms received minor damage.
We are grateful to York, Leicester, and Pavilion Fire Departments, and Livingston County Emergency Management for their prompt response and diligent work into the night.
The District enlisted the services of a property restoration company to assist our own Facilities Department with the cleanup. We are assessing the situation and pursuing prevention strategies to protect the ground floor from future weather extremes.
The affected ground-floor rooms will remain closed as we take the time to fully assess what remediation needs to be done on the rooms and areas impacted and what prevention steps can be taken in the future. Three classrooms are being relocated within the elementary school, as we do not anticipate the rooms being ready for the opening of school in September.
Thank you to everyone who assisted on June 27 and to everyone who offered their help. We appreciate the community’s support of York Central School District.
Sincerely,
David Furletti
