York Middle/High School

York Middle School students and staff spent last Friday helping out in the community. Over 160 students and staff raked lawns for 13 community members and also raked and cleaned up Mount Pleasant Cemetery. The students and staff worked in teams all morning. When all of the yards and the cemetery were cleaned up, they enjoyed a picnic lunch at a Geneseo park. The students enjoyed their service project and the teaches enjoyed an opportunity to connect with their students outside of the classroom. Thank you to YCS Counselor Julie Gillman and all of the staff for organizing this worthwhile community service project.

Building the next generation of YCS Leaders! York Middle/High School Principal Mrs. Peet took a group of YCS High School students to the Next Generation Leadership Summit at SUNY Geneseo on Friday. It is a hands on leadership program where students from area schools participate in developing a plan for servant leadership and creating a positive vision. In other words, these YCS students will blaze a path for YCS! Check out some of the take-away notes of what a servant leader is and is not! Thank you YCS students for taking on this challenge of building a positive vision for our school. Thank you to our awesome Middle/High School leader Mrs. Peet for bringing our future leaders to the table!

Building the Next Generation YCS Leaders! York Middle/High School Principal Mrs. Peet took a group of students to SUNY Geneseo on Friday to participate in the Next Generation Leadership Summit. It is a program where area students participate in hands-on learning about what is servant leadership, how to become a positive leader, and how to create a vision plan for their schools. In other words, these student leaders will blaze a positive path at YCS! Here is an example of what speaker Dani Drews, SUNY Geneseo Dir. of Intercollegiate Athletics & Recreation shared with the students: "Leadership is NOT about not making mistakes." "No two people lead the same - it is as unique as a fingerprint." "You are responsible for the energy you bring to the room." Thank you to our students for participating in the leadership summit - you are positive role models for our school! Congratulations to York/Pavilion Varsity Football Coach Kurt Schneider - named the Rochester Region Coach of the Week by the Buffalo Bills and ADPRO. The award comes with a $1,000 donation for Coach Schneider's Y/P Golden Knights Football program and a chance to be named the Coach of the Year, which will be announced during the Bill's game against the New England Patriots on December 31, 2023 at 1 p.m. Coach Schneider led his Knights to a 28-0 victory on October 20 over arch-rival Geneseo Blue Devils to win the Valley Ball trophy.
