Our Middle School students had a great night of fun playing BINGO with their friends. Friday, March 28 was Middle School Fun Night - BINGO!
Teachers and staff hosted the event that included BINGO games, snacks, and an evening of fun for students!
April 2 is Paraprofessional Appreciation Day!
Our paraprofessionals support our students' success every day in the classroom. Thank you for your dedication and hard work in supporting our students. You are an important piece of the puzzle and we couldn't do it without you!

York All Sports Boosters hosted a bowling and Peter’s Wings event at Livingston Lanes on Sunday, March 30.
There was great participation from the students and prizes were presented to several teams.
The first-place team of Kasey Coffey, John Ayers, Brody Smith, Brody Pangrazio, and Yerial Diaz-Pena received a trophy.
YASB would like to thank Livingston Lanes, Peter’s Wings, our lane sponsors, gift basket donors, organizers, and especially our bowlers for a fun day of bowling and delicious wings!

A Message from YCS Superintendent David Furletti
Earlier this morning, Tuesday, April 1, 2025, York Central School and a part of the surrounding community experienced a power outage. Our generators were activated to provide emergency lighting, and the cafeterias were able to continue preparing lunches.
Instruction and student supervision continued until power was restored at approximately 10:10 a.m. Normal operations resumed.
Thank you to our faculty and staff for seamlessly responding to the power outage.
Big thanks to Mr. Pete Robinson (YCS 2024 retiree) who has been back at York Elementary School since January.
On his final day, Mr. Robinson read a book to the students called, "Thank you, Mr. Falker," by Patricia Polacco. The students wrote him thank you notes! His last day concluded with everyone enjoying cookies and juice to celebrate Mr. Robinson filling our buckets this semester.
Today, we welcomed Mrs. Moliterni back to YES!

York Students Learn Empathy and Understanding from Holocaust Learning Day
Students in grades 8-12 participated in a unique educational experience. Middle-High School Social Studies Teacher Ben Chatley developed a Holocaust Learning Day, which included classroom activities and testimonies from Holocaust survivors. It was the first of its kind to happen at York CSD.
There were several goals of the Holocaust Learning Day, including helping students develop a greater understanding of the impact that hate and persecution had on minority groups around the world. Classroom discussions centered around how young people and adults can resist and prevent hatred in our schools, community, and beyond.
Teachers facilitated the classroom learning activities, which included watching video accounts of individuals who endured the Holocaust. Some of them were fortunate to survive; sadly, many did not. Many survivors emigrated to the United States and other European countries and built successful lives.
In classroom discussions, many students said that the program broadened their knowledge of the Holocaust and they had a better understanding of the impacts of hate toward persecuted groups.
After the classroom activities, all students gathered in the auditorium, to hear emotional testimonies from two people whose families were Holocaust survivors.
Map skills - because you never know when the GPS is not going to work...
Mrs. Carrick's fourth-grade students have been working on map skills - identifying cardinal directions (North, South, East, West), understanding map keys and symbols, and recognizing the purpose of a map title and scale.
We are so proud to announce that the York High School Concert Band will be at SUNY Fredonia for their High School band festival, a day filled with masterclasses, clinics, performances, and tours! More photos to follow!

York High School students competed at Genesee Community College’s Tech Wars on March 19, 2025. Over 700 students and their Tech teachers from GLOW region schools competed in the 16th Annual competition.
Tech Wars allows students to showcase their skills and creativity. York students worked all school year on their projects and it paid off at the competition. York School took third place overall in the middle school competition. Here are the individual results:

Ten members of the York High School Close Up Club, recently spent a week in Washington, D.C., experiencing our nation’s democracy and government procedures.
High School Social Studies Teacher Mr. Kurt Schneider is the advisor to the Close Up Club and accompanied the group on the trip. He said the trip gives students a unique experience and inspires them to be active and engaged citizens.
While there, students visited several monuments and memorials, including the White House, Lincoln Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, and the White House.
Students from across the country collaborated in groups to form a mock student Congress where they developed and proposed legislation.
The Close Up trip to Washington, D.C. happens annually.
What is the percentage of water contained in a chemical salt (hydrate)?
Students in Mr. Alex Flint's Chemistry class conducted a lab to heat the hydrate and use a formula to determine the answer.

March is Agriculture in the Classroom Month.
Recently, First Grade Teacher Mrs. Sandy Streb welcomed Stephanie Hann into the classroom to read to her students. The book that she read aloud was entitled, "The Pie that Molly Grew," a story about a young girl who plants pumpkin seeds, which eventually grow into pumpkins. The pumpkins are harvested and become a delicious pumpkin pie!
After reading the book, Mrs. Hann helped the students sow a seed of their own in soil!
Mrs. Hann is a staff assistant to NYS Assemblywoman Andrea Bailey, who represents the 133rd District.
Five Golden Knights represented YCS at the Section Five Student Leadership Training held today at SUNY Geneseo.

Mrs. Penny Liptak's Accelerated Science students will attest that Science is fun!
Students in her class demonstrated their knowledge of cell mitosis in a very creative way.
The project included making note cards of facts about cell mitosis. Then, the fun part! Students used playdough to create a model cell. The students added additional pieces of clay to the cell model to demonstrate chromosome changes.
Lastly, the cell changes were documented using a stop motion video app. The resulting video produced a great visual for understanding the process of cell mitosis.
The students worked in teams to complete the project.
