Go West, young man! A famous quote from the mid-1800s when Americans were encouraged to move westward in search of opportunity - and gold, which became knows as the California Gold Rush.
Mr. Chatley's eighth grade Social Studies students are learning about this time period in American history.
As a class activity, the students made paper gold nuggets. The instructions were to hide their name within the drawing. Mr. Chatley grouped the gold nuggets together and the students had to locate their own, simulating the search for gold.
The students participated in activities related to homesteading and the transcontinental railroad as part of the unit on westward expansion.

DNA is widely used in law enforcement investigations , medical diagnostics, agriculture, and many other areas.
Mrs. Brubaker's Living Environment students participated in a lab, creating simple DNA models using Twizzlers, marshmallows, and toothpicks to represent the components of DNA.
Twizzlers act as the sugar-phosphate backbone, while marshmallows represent the four nucleotide bases, and toothpicks simulate the bonds between them.
The activity provides a hands-on way to understand the structure of DNA and how it forms a double helix, ending with the fun reward of eating the model.
