August 5, 2020

Dear Families,

At the Board of Education meeting held on August 3, 2020, an updated 2020-2021 York CSD School Calendar was approved.  The new calendar reflects the October and November conference days being moved up into September and changes the first day of school for students to Monday, September 14.

We understand that this might cause an inconvenience for some of our families; however, providing four consecutive days of professional development is necessary in order to be fully prepared for our students - in person, hybrid and remote - for our first day of school. As I am sure that you are aware, this upcoming school year will not look as any other has in the past.

In addition to all the health and safety protocols that we will have in place here at school, learning from home this year will also look much different than it did last spring.  Whether you have a PreK-4 student coming in five days a week, a student in grades 5-12 learning in the hybrid model (two days a week in-person and 3 days a week at home), or a student who will be fully remote, you will see a noticeable improvement in the areas of online instruction, support and accountability. Moving our October and November conference days to the first full week of September provides teachers with the time needed to consistently and effectively implement these changes at all grade levels.

Thank you for your continued understanding and support during these difficult times.
