The Community:
The 67-square mile York Central School District is located amid the lush farmland of northwestern Livingston County, about 35 miles southwest of Rochester and 70 miles east of Buffalo. Included in the district are the hamlets of York, Leicester, Cuylerville, Fowlerville, Piffard, Retsof, Greigsville, Wadsworth, and Linwood. Major sources of employment include dairy and crop farming, Tabtronics, Atofina, Arkema, American Rock Salt, and CPAC. Many area residents commute to Rochester for employment.
The area offers a multitude of cultural and educational benefits. Colleges and universities serving the region include the University of Rochester, St. John Fisher and Nazareth Colleges, Rochester Institute of Technology, the State University College at Brockport, and the State University at Geneseo, located just five miles to the east.
York's location provides easy access to the recreational opportunities of the Finger Lakes and Genesee Valley, including nearby Letchworth State Park, home of the magnificent Genesee River gorge known as the "Grand Canyon of the East." York School District is also home to the Abbey of the Genesee where Monks' Bread is made.
School Facilities:
York Central School District, covering a geographical area of roughly 67-square-miles, serves approximately 850 students in a single K-12 complex that includes two cafeterias, two libraries, three gymnasiums, and a newly renovated 500-seat auditorium.
A total of 102 full-time faculty and 66 support personnel make up the staff at York Central. The district's administrative team includes the Superintendent of Schools, Elementary Principal, Middle/High School Principal, School Business Administrator, and Pupil Personnel Services Director. Other professional and support personnel include: three school counselors, one school nurse, two library media specialists, director of instructional technology, director of food service, director of buildings and grounds, and director of transportation.
