Welcome to the 2011 – 2012 school year. The 2011 – 2012 school year is upon us. Our teachers and staff are prepared for another great year at YCS. As always, each new school year brings with it commitments and challenges for staff, students and parents. There are many new academic and social initiatives this year which will help us move ahead in all aspects of our education. Academically, we continue to offer a broad number of courses above and beyond the state mandates. Our students will have the opportunity to work towards their degree and beyond by participating in college and Advanced Placement classes. Each student can take courses from Alfred State University, Genesee Community College and the College Board. This, along with the ability to become nationally certified in programs from the Genesee Valley Educational Partnership, gives our students the opportunity to have a great start in their post graduate lives. Socially, our students will begin hearing about PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports). As we continue to reinforce the “Knights Way” and development of our school community, the students will see and hear our commitment to creating a climate conducive to being an educational institution committed to a professional environment for all students. Throughout our building you will see posters and character education concepts which will become common language for all faculty, staff, students and parents to use. As always we welcome all students, parents and community members. Please feel free to come visit our staff and/or visit our website at www.yorkcsd.org and see where our academic program is going. I wish you all a great year and hope you join in the “Knights Way”. Sincerely, David J. Sylvester Middle/High School Principal
